weggespuelt.
About 500 small islands next to the south coast of Cuba, all of them with Mangroves and not higher than 7 feet – these are the Jardines de la Reina (=the gardens of the Queen). The routes in between Cabo de Cruz and Trinidad are quite well marked but anyway – you have to take great care about all the small islands and reefs cause the water is not deeper than 70 feet. Dont worry about too much traffic, we sailed there for one week and we saw just ONE other sailing boat. On the way through the jardines we found our own small island with palmtrees, sandy beach and turquoise water. So if you wanna play Robinson Crusoe for a few days go to Cayo Cucaracha but take care about navigation, the small island Megano Cucaracha was washed into the sea by the last hurricane.

A small entrance into
a big bay so the harbour of Santiago de Cuba is perfectly protected but it
is very dirty because of heavy industry
and traffic pollution. Thats why we left Santiago after one week and sailed
eastward to Cabo Cruz and the „Jardines de la Reina“

Lokale fuer Einheimische gehen.
We had a great trip
from our last anchorage in the Caicos, the Fish Cays (approx 300 nm, ttl. 3
days), sailing the Windward Passage to Santiago de Cuba. About 520 years ago
Columbus used the the same way from the Bahamas on his first trip 1492. About
100 nm before we got to Guantanomo Bay the USCG visited us by helicopter, i am
sure they checked at the web who we are and where we go to.
Our first impressions
about Cuba – fantastic.....if you want to get imported products you pay a hell
of money, if you buy made in Cuba you pay peanuts. Look at the pics – we payed less than one USD for six cups of icecream
including cakes! There is another currency in Cuba just for tourists, the CUC
(Peso convertible) and if you have to pay in CUC its about „normal“ price. Its quite strange if you pay for a coffee in a
local bar 0,04 USD and on the other side you pay 65 USD to rent a car for a
day.

Six Hill Cays
also bitte a bissl Geduld.
Three days and night
we stayed at „Six Hill Cays“, on the first day we had nice neighbours, Fanny
from Sao Paulo and Vincent from Paris with their big and nice Alures monohull.
The other two days we had been all alone with low winds, blue skies and crystal
clear water . Under water is was great for snorkelling, turtles and stingrays,
many beautiful corals, big crabs, lots of small fish in bright colours and
two big fish just in grey. On the third day suddenly a
boat came around the northern top of Six Hill Cays, the Tangaroa with Eva and
Hans from Austria. We knew each other from Trinidad and we saw them last year in Austria when
they got married. Well and here at the end of the world we have the same
anchorage......Now we are back in South Caicos/Cockburn Harbour, we already
checked out and with a stopover at Ambergris Cays we will continue to Cuba now.
The „Brightstar“ crew is waiting there for us and we will enjoy nice holidays
„on the hard ground“ there. We think that internet access will be quite
complicated there so wait for our news, we try to update the blog whenever
possible.

Cockburn Harbour / Fischen
Two short clips, the
first one shows the main street of
Cockburn Harbour the other one
is about fishing –
translation what i said in the video: we caught a half fish, well in fact we
caught a complete fish but there was another bigger fish which was a bit faster
