Highlights Marokko / Best of Morocco

After some hours in (fast) trains and about 1500kms in a small Fiat Punto around and through the High Atlas we are back now on the boat in Rabat/Sale. Now we gonna full up the fridge, the watertank and fuel (diesel is only about 65 Eurocent/Liter) cause we are ready to leave for Madeira tomorrow. Here are some pics from a country  with friendly people and great nature.

Ouzoud

We stayed two nights in Cascades d´ Ouzoud, one in a Berber tent just below the cascades. The waterfall and the birds were loud all night long but we had been sleeping till 9am

Dades

After the Draa valley we visited the only other fertile valley south of the High Atlas, the valley of the Dades river. Again we had some breathtaking views of the High Atlas mountains, it think its the combination of desert and snow. We crossed the mountains back to the north, this time not on the main road but on a smaller one some miles east, it took us almost 6hrs for just 160kms!

Karawanen / Caravans

Zagora in the Draa valley  fast the first (or last) oasis on the way from Timbuktu to  Marrakech. What had all the traders been thinking when the finally reached the water of the Draa river after some 52 days out in the desert? Just like a Fata Morgana.....

Tinfou - Duenen / Dunes

We had a short visit in the dunes of Tinfou and Sylvia had a lot of fun riding.

Well what should i say.....just look at the pics...click on one of the pics to ENLARGE them!

Ounila

From Telouet we took the road down the Ounila valley back to the main road, but just look at the pics to see the phantastic scenery in the high Atlas mountains!

Telouet

On the way from Marrakech to the Draa valley we crossed the highest mountain pass (Tizn i Tika, 7400ft) and right behind we took a small road down to Telouet. The palace of the Glaoui clan was impressive, for many centuries all traders had to pay toll, noone could  avoid the Tizn i Tika on the way from Timbukto to Marrakech.

Marokko / Morocco

Well sometimes we are asked to buy a rug or a leather jacket, but never in an agressive manner, not even in the centers of tourism of Rabat, Meknes or Fez. All the people here are friendly and we feel really save, we also had been walking late evening  without any problem. Food here is delicious, prices are low and the domestic transport system (bus and train) is very good.
So - if you havnt been here yet, visit Morocco!

Fes

Fes is another one of the four imperial cities in Morocco. Downtown areqa consists of ovwer 9000 streets, lots of them to small for a motorbike.Well we always found our way way back to the hotel even without a guide.

Meknes

We took the train from Rabat/sale to Meknes and not just the hotel was fine.
The ancient parts (Medina) are always protected by thick walls  and have at leats one huge entrance door, called Bab

Rabat

Rabat is at the southern end of the Bouregreg river, Sale (no Ladies, its not the summer sale!!) is at its northern end. If there are some waves the entrance can be pretty tricky so the marina will send a pilot to guide you into the river where the boatyard is.

Gewuerze / Spices

It was fantastic to explore the Souks (stores) of the Saleh´s Medina (old town) and quite interresting to find the way out to the 21st century from all these narrow roads which makes Sale downtown a labyrinth.

Marokko/Morocco -Rabat

We had a fast trip from Portugal to Rabat and arrived in a completely other world. When moroccan customs inspected Onotoa upon arrival we found out that it was one of the (about 100) dogs we shipped over the last few years in cooperation with the Viennese police. The K9 officed noted that the dog will not find anything cause we know him, well and that was true......to all of you who dont know: we own www.animalsfirst.at
