Porto Santo

Wir haben die Wettervorhersage genau beobachtet und hatten eine tolle Ueberfahrt nach Porto Santo, der kleinen Nachbarinsel von Madeira. Die 480 Seemeilen (das ist etwa ein Viertel der kompletten Atlantikueberquerung von den Kapverden in die Karibik!) haben wir in etwas ueber 4 Tagen bewaeltigt, wobei wir nach 2 ½ Tagen nur mehr 100sm hatten aber dann ist der Wind etwas eingeschlafen und wir haben den Rest sehr sehr gemuetlich (davon eine Nacht treibend!) verbracht. Fuer alle Segelprofis: unser bestes Etmal war 150sm.Jetzt relaxen wir mal ein paar Tage hier bevor wir den kleinen Sprung (40 Seemeilen) nach Funchal/Madeira machen. Uebrigens lebte Christoph Kolumbus hier einige Jahre nachdem er die Tochter des Vizegouverneurs der Insel geheiratet hatte.

We carefully checked the weather updates and therefore we had a perfect ride to Porto Santo, the small island next to Madeira. It took us 4 ½ days for ttl. 480Nm (which is about a quarter of the crossing from the Cape Verdes to the Caribbean!), Our best etmal (1200 noon to 1200 noon) was 150nm, the last 100nm the wind died down so we arrived relaxed, we even spent one night just drifting in the Atlantic ocean. Now we will enjoy Porto Santo for a few days before we make the short trip (40nm) to Funchal/Madeira. Christoph Columbus lived here for a few years after he had married the daughter of the vice gouverneur of the island.
